Kristen Stewart Explains Why She Wore a Wig Over Her Natural Hair in Spencer

Kristen Stewart Explains Why She Wore a Wig Over Her Natural Hair in Spencer

Who says work can’t be fun?! When you’re an actress portraying the legendary Princess Diana, every day is a new day, and every experience is better than the previous one. At least that’s how Kristen Stewart describes filming Spencer!

Recently while speaking with Entertainment Weekly (EW), Stewart opened up about getting ready as Princess Diana and the things that helped her emulate her look. She even revealed the process of filming and how it differed from the usual technique.

A breathtaking experience!

The Twilight actress began with thanking the film’s hair team and said if it wasn’t for them, she wouldn’t have been able to manage that wig (yes, she used a wig in the movie!). When asked why she didn’t go with her natural hair, Stewart explained that it was nowhere close to what the character required. Plus, if she didn’t use a wig, the shooting would’ve ended in much less time, which of course, she didn’t want (*wink).

Referring to the shoot, she said it was as if it was sprinting. The team began filming in January 2021 and wrapped up within a few months. They worked so fast that they were able to achieve their goal of premiering the movie at the 78th Venice International Film Festival held on September 3, 2021. As for the theatrical release, fans won’t have to wait too long for that as well ‘cuz the movie will hit theaters on November 5, 2021.

Coming back to Stewart, she disclosed that when fans watch the first 15 minutes of the movie, they’ll easily make out that it barrels the entire time. The 31-year-old added that she took Emma Corrin’s portrayal of Diana in The Crown as an inspiration. She watched the complete fourth season before reporting to set for filming. The Charlie’s Angel star even praised Corrin saying she did an incredible job imitating Diana, and she loved watching her throughout the season.

Speaking about Spencer’s director (Pablo Larraín), Stewart said he has his own way of doing things, and it scared her at first. She revealed at the end of every day, she got 30 minutes to pick an outfit, and in the meanwhile, Larraín chose a song in the room and was ready to go. He used to say since they’re not doing everything chronologically as it happens in a biopic, they have the flexibility to tell the story as people have never heard or seen before.

All Stewart has to do is to live the moment like Diana did and act accordingly. Though other people in the room were fine with Larraín’s approach, Stewart wasn’t sure at first. Since she’s a control freak, she always prefers that she knows everything beforehand. However, when she followed Larraín’s method, eventually it suited her, and she was able to feel the aura Diana had.
